Day 2 - Working towards running

Yesterday morning was more about satisfacation than just a happy moment.  And it was the satisfaction that made me smile and feel wonderful!  About a month ago I decided I wanted to run a 5K before the end of the summer.  I AM NOT a runner!  Never have been, never thought I could be.  That was until I began taking a "boot camp" class in February.  The instructor made me run.  And to my surprise I did it!  I ran!  A lot!  Then, the boot camp no longer fit into my schedule and my frustration with my jean size was mounting.  I decided I was actually going to try and run.  I began the first week of May and was imediately sidelined with a terrible cold that turned into an ear infection and brocitics.  No running for me.  Then vacation.  Really?  I'm not running on vacation : )

So, now that I am healthy and back to my normal routine, I've started working on running again.  I started with walking for 30 minutes and running in 2 minute intervals.  Yesterday, I moved up to 3 minute intervals.  PROGRESS!!!!  And I ran UP A HILL!!!!  Yes, up a hill.  I never thought I could do this, and I am.  Major satisfaction.  Major happy!!!!

Day 1 - Happy Heron

So, I could start by saying I am so happy to have such a wonderful family.  But, we all know that, its a given.  I have a wonderful family and I am happy for it.  And they do bring me such joy!!!!

But, as a starting point, a random chance sighting of a beautiful bird skimming over water is what brought an unexpected smile to my face today.  I love herons (or is it heron).  I love the way they fly when they are on the move, high in the air.  I love their majestic stance as they stand watching over the water.  But most of all, I love when they are gliding low against the water, ready to land.

There is just something about this bird that makes me feel at peace.  Perhaps that is why I look for one whenever driving by a body of water.  I'm always trying to see my next heron.  And I normally do not have to wait long.  I probably see one, in flight more often than not, every other day or so.  And most often here in Mason, which just seems odd because it is so populated.  So until next time Mr. Heron....

A new outlook...

All too often we tend to focus on the negative.  All the small problems in our lives take center stage and we forget or ignore the positve things that bring us happiness.  So, my new goal (we'll see how long I can actually make it - oh a negative - opps!) is to find something each day that brings happiness or joy into my life and celebrate it.  Hopefully I will be able to post each day and at the end of the year have 365 things that have made me smile.  Here goes....
